Travel to Rotterdam by plane, train or ferry

Airlines that use Rotterdam The Hague Airport are Transavia, Cityjet (Air France), Corendon Airlines, Onur Air and ArkeFly. Their flights mainly depart from destinations in Turkey, Spain, France and Greece. Click below for information about arrivals and departures.

Another way to travel to Rotterdam is by train. There are high speed trains from Belgium and France to Rotterdam. Tickets can be ordered online with NS Hispeed or Thalys and reservation is compulsory. The Fyra train to Belgium is out of order due to technical problems, but there is an international train that temporary replaces the Fyra trains. Reservation for this train is compulsory if you go to Belgium, but not within Holland. International trains arrive at Rotterdam Central Station. Other important train stations in Rotterdam are Rotterdam Blaak and Rotterdam Alexander.

Travel to Rotterdam by ferry is possible too from England. P&O / POferries has overnight sailings from Hull to Rotterdam. Duration is 11 to 12 hours. Best is to have a car, because from the ferry terminal to Rotterdam city center takes long by public transport. By car is it approximately 30 minutes.


Public transport Rotterdam city center

Rotterdam has a metro system with five lines. Most important metro stations are Rotterdam Centraal, Rotterdam Beurs and Rotterdam Blaak. The end of the metro lines is in suburbs or other cities like The Hague and Schiedam. The Rotterdam tramway network has nine lines and some special lines. Special tram lines are the historic tram line 10 that only runs in summer. And line 12 and 18 that runs during festivals and soccer matches. Finally Rotterdam has 33 city bus lines. Other companies with bus lines to Rotterdam are Arriva, Connexxion and Veolia. Rotterdam public transport runs regularly from approximately 6 am until midnight.

The Waterbus goes from Dordrecht to Rotterdam. This trip takes an hour and there is space for bicycles. Watertaxi is available near the city center. To be able to use bus, tram and metro you need an OV-chipcard. Read information about the OV-chipcard here.
