Groningen is the largest city of the north of the Netherlands and well-known because of his university. The first settlements are from the 3rd century. In the 13th century Groningen was an important trade center, which continued the next centuries. The Martini Tower is from the 15th century and was at that moment the highest building of Europe. Unfortunately the center of Groningen was destroyed in World War II, but some buildings like the Martini Tower, city hall and church were not.

Nowadays Groningen is the most important city in the north of the Netherlands.
